After his Tibetan exile in 1959, he played a crucial role in preserving and disseminating the Sakya teachings, establishing monasteries and study centers in India and around the world. He is renowned for his vast scholarship, his profound teachings on Lamdre (the path and its outcome), and his dedication to keeping the Sakya tradition alive.
Free your heart and mind
His Holiness Sakya Trizin, head of the glorious Sakya lineage—one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism—presents here the essential Buddhist teachings of the Four Noble Truths, Universal Compassion, and the Right Motivation for Practice. This book begins by sharing a private teaching His Holiness gave to a young newcomer seeking to understand the spiritual heritage of this great master. His Holiness's advice inspires us to integrate the potential power of these teachings into our daily lives. Filled with timeless wisdom, Free Your Heart and Mind contains, in addition to this introduction, an explanation of the Immaculate Compassion teaching by the Indian saint Virupa, and a selection of the essential teachings called Separating from the Four Attachments. Developed as the first volume of a study program for students of the Sakya tradition, it nevertheless serves as an excellent introduction to the Buddha's teachings on its own.
