Set of Small Dark Bowls

This set of seven bowls originates from ancient India, where they represented the seven offerings with which guests were welcomed into the home: drinking water, bathing water, flowers, incense, light, scented water, and food.

Over time, this practice was adopted by Tibetan Buddhism as a form of offering to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. More than a material gesture, it is a training of the heart: the practice of selfless giving, even though one knows that the Buddhas need nothing.
