A purba (also called a phurba or kila) is an ancient Tibetan ritual object used in Vajrayana Buddhism, usually depicted as a three-sided ritual dagger with a handle symbolising a magical nail used to immobilise negative forces, demons or hindering energies. Traditionally carved from wood, bone or metal, this sacred instrument is regarded as a tool of spiritual transformation, representing the penetration of wisdom into ignorance, and is used by monks and teachers during meditation ceremonies and purification rituals.
